HELP CREATE A VISION FOR AUSTIN
Imagine Austin “MEETING-in-a-BOX” for Austin Creatives & Their Supporters
The City wants to create Imagine Austin, a comprehensive plan for the future development of Austin. To make sure that it is a place created by and for all Austinites, the City is inviting Austinites that work within arts, culture, and creative industries, and their supporters, to attend an upcoming “MEETING-in-a-BOX” facilitated by the Cultural Arts Division of Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office and the CreateAustin Cultural Plan Community Leadership Team on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Mexican American Cultural Center (600 River Street) to share their vision for Austin’s future.
Imagine Austin provides broad-level guidance on how Austin will grow and develop into the future. According to the [City Charter], the Comprehensive Plan contains “the council’s policies for growth, development and beautification of the land within the corporate limits and the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city.” It will include recommendations for Austin’s health and human services, parks and open space, transportation, water resources, housing, land use, public buildings, economic development, and conservation and environmental resources.
The Cultural Arts Division MEETING-in-a-BOX is similar to the Comprehensive Plan’s community forum series held November 9-12, and is designed to get input on what the creative community, and their supporters, hope to see Austin becoming in 10, 20, 30 years in the future. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/compplan/
