Full A Team Review: Capitol Steps

Targets Galore

The Capitol Steps, who have had me laughing for years through their musical skits and sketches on National Public Radio, are even more enjoyable in person.
These D.C. satirists did roast and lampoon,
Wits sharper than a whaler’s harpoon.
Their targets were of every scale.
They gave us laughs and gave ’em hell.
They hurled their barbs and flung their jibes,
And the audience responded with jocular vibes.
A Delores, a Bari, a Michael and two Mikes
Were hitting their targets like avenging shrikes.
Howard Breitbart was smooth on the piano,
Helping the cast to “book ’em Dano!”
For so many years, they’ve mocked our leaders,
Skewering the hapless, leaving only bleeders.
Susan Boyle, the Somali Pirates, Oprah and even the “Pet Ba-rock” and the Bailout all caught musical flack. Adulterous Gov. Mark Stanford was recognized with “Stanford and Sin” (a.k.a. “Sanford & Son.”) Even the Aggies took a shot to the delight of the “orange nation.”
Can’t get enough? Visit www.capitolsteps.com. Not only can you order one of their 29 albums, of which the most recent is “Obama Mia,” but you can check out their upcoming performances. Perhaps, your travel and their appearances will coincide. The cast — Michael Forrest, Delores King Williams, Bari Biern, Mike Thornton and Mike Carruthers are highly experienced performers with impressive acting resumes, as well as having been insiders — “infesting the offices” of 11 U.S. Senators and seven Members of the House of Representatives — “most since defeated or placed under investigation,”  according to program notes.
And while you are on the Internet Highway, get on the Long Center’s mailing list (www.thelongcenter.org) because the line-up of entertainers is so extensive, you’ll need to balance your social calendar and your check book to keep up with all the great coming acts!
