The Kerrville Folk Festival is set on Quiet Valley Ranch in the rolling green hills between Kerrville and Medina, Texas. People come for the day to hear the headlining acts – like the Indigo Girls this year. They come camp out for a night to take part in the campfire song-circles that run well past midnight. Or they Kerrvive – stay for the full 18 days of the fest. Old-time Kerrverts and new-to-the-ranch Kerrvirgins alike travel from as far as Australia and as nearby as the ranch itself to camp out, sing, fire-spin, swim in the Medina, play and laugh. But mostly, they come because the Kerrville Folk Festival is their home. Beth Cortez-Neavel spoke to a couple of Kerrverts about the festival’s motto “Welcome Home” and why these two words keep people coming back year after year.
