What to do For Your Valentine Weekend

You’re sitting there this afternoon, 11th hour, and you still haven’t made your plans for Valentine’s Weekend around Austin? Are you crazy?!

No, you’re not crazy, you just knew that Nowplayingaustin.com would have your back. And boy do we. Scroll on past the jump to find some of the best Valentine’s events our fair city has to offer.

Dinner is always a good move for you Valentine’s date, but what if in the middle of your dinner, there was a startling murder? Turn your romantic dinner into an interactive dinner and a show with The Dinner Detective Austin. Having worked in the professional theater, TV and film industries for over 20 years, The Dinner Detective Austin’s collection of actors and producers have mastered the art of improvisational role playing and have ultimately created the perfect evening of entertainment for you. By hiding their actors among the customers, everyone is a suspect in this thrilling and hilarious evening out.
And you can’t really call it a date unless there’s dinner and a movie. Austin now just happens to be home to a brand new retro-fied classic drive-in theatre with Blue Starlite. Have a romantic movie time the same way your parents and grandparents did, and have a more private and intimate setting while watching some of the best movies in your car, or even outside under the stars over on East 6th Street.
For Valentine’s weekend, they’re showing Back to the Future on Friday, a triple-feature of Reefer Madness, Mom and Dad, and Bride of the Gorilla on Saturday, and the always romantic Roman Holiday for Sunday and Monday nights.

If you consider yourself part of everybody, you <3 boobs. At least, according to the title of the cabaret style multimedia musical comedy going on down at the Vortex. Everybody ♥s Boobs celebrates women and their breasts for a different, exciting sort of take on your Valentine’s weekend, with proceeds from the show going to support the making of “The Cleavage Chronicles: If These Girls Could Talk”, a documentary to raise awareness and aid in the fight against breast cancer.

The House of Torment, Austin’s premiere haunted house, is doing something interesting for this V-Day. Opening for this weekend only for a new haunted house experience with Dark Stalkers is sure to scare and startle you and bring you to new levels of literal closeness with your date. Hand-clutching guaranteed, wet pants warning.

And if you really just want a good laugh, head over to the Hideout Theatre for Love is a Funny Thing. The Hideout Theatre promises a charming evening of improv games, scenes, chocolate and flowers that will fuel the fire of your love or ease the pain of lovelessness.

As always, you can find more info on these events and everything else going on in town at Nowplayingaustin.com.
